Welcome

Welcome to the PersonaWork blog!

It's a blog about self-management and the construction of personas.

The blog's central theme is that persona creation is a never-ending task at all stages of our lives. We are always challenged
  • to create flexible, strong personas
  • that enable us to satisfy our deepest inner needs
  • while adapting to the demands of environments that can be indifferent or even harsh towards us.
To manage the interplay of inner needs and outer demands, we each develop a package of mental routines which we perform over and over in life. I'll be blogging about some of the routines which strike me as most central to that management task. For example:
  • Managing attention and other mental resources. How do personality factors and cognitive skills affect how you manage attention?
  • Using symbolic behaviors to bridge the gap between inner and outer experience. Body language, metaphors, etc. - are these unmanageable unconscious processes or can you improve how they operate in your life?
  • Inner identity and relationships. Is conflict inevitable or can we get them to work synergistically?
My posts will examine current research and theory that can be applied to practical situations you face in daily life.

I plan to post about 2 or 3 times a month. If you would like to be put on a mailing list, please e-mail me and you will get a brief e-mail whenever something is posted. I won't spam you or give your address to others and will remove you from my mailing list whenever you tell me that you want to be removed.

Hope you enjoy the blog!
